Battle of Cartagena de Indias
>The defeat at Cartagena de Indias was a major setback for the UK. It caused heavy British losses in ships and soldiers, damaged morale, and forced Britain to abandon its plan to seize Spanish territories in the Americas. This failure weakened Britain’s influence in the Caribbean and delayed its imperial ambitions in the region for at least 50 years

What a MASSIVE ass whooping

It really wasn't an important battle it barely changed the strategic situation in a sideshow theatre to the War of the Austrian succession. The loss of Madras to the French a few years later was unironically a much bigger blow to the British.

Most of those soldiers died due to disease.

I hate these retarded cope as if disease weren't a full part of warfare in this era. They were decimated by diseases because they failed to defeat their opponent and land ashore in spite of a massive numerical advantage

>losing a random island is worse than losing 10k men

For record I also think the weather argument for the Armada is mostly a cope, even if a most reasonable one because weather was a much more random factor than disease were.
For the fun fact as many anglos died of starvation and diseases due to the Armadas than Spaniard who died in the storm

Now Cartagena was a great defeat for the British, quite possibly their worst in the entire 18th century, but this goes a bit far. Britain had returned to being the dominant power in the Caribbean by the 7 years war 20 years later.

This war could have been much more interesting than it was.

So it was more of a pyrrhic victory?
