Why do Americans here love LARPing as Norse or Greco-Roman pagans? If you're going to reject Christianity wholesale (and your ancestors were fanatic Christians since the Middle Ages who identified with the Israelites) then at least create something unique and relevant for the soil you live on. Like you know every single religion ever.

You cannot have the same religious views as someone from ancient times because you have much different life experiences. This applies even for Protestants from the 1700's. This is like some kind of weird cargo cult.

Americans are descended from Norse pagans

Anon, there are no more ancient Norse or Greco-Roman religion. That's why it's called Neo-Paganism. The "Neo" prefix denotes religions that are based on but do not have direct continuity to their origin. The only Pagan religion around today that has a direct connection to its origin is Hinduism as far as I'm aware.

Religions aren't created to be something "unique and relevant for the soil", they are born out of the culture of some segment society based on what concepts the people feel affinity towards or some resonance with
In the case of most north Americans that aren't satisfy with Christianity and other abrahamic faiths for a reason or another they will look either at their Germanic roots or at the Roman republic their nation was originally modeled after and the founding father looked up to, or at the greek philosophy that gave the basis of most western intellectual and mystic traditions
Any new religion will emerge as an outgrowth of those bases as more modern concepts and figures get organically mixed in to give a more distinct flavor

Not really? They are Euromutts but generally descend from British ethnicities, not Norsemen (their genetic impact on Danelaw is vastly overstated). Even with the Scandinavians around the Upper Midwest, their ancestors were Lutherans for a longer time than they were ever Vikings.

Nope, when my 10th Great Grandfather landed in the Colonies back in the 1600s he was in all likely an Anglican, although a few of them before this were also Catholic.
The absolute earliest of my ancestors, going back to the 900s, were likely also Christian, and for Yuropoors it's likely similar, because Pagans didn't keep records like the Church did, so it's unlikely ANYONE, European or American, will have any documented Pagan ancestors. If my ancestors before this were Pagan, I'd never know.

My ancestry doesn't even go back to before the Reformation. The thing is these people aren't actually interested in their real ancestors, it's all a giant cargo cult.

I don't think you're using this term correctly.

You cannot separate the extreme admiration 18th century Anglos had for Greeks and Romans, yes, from their Christianity and even still pro-Christian Deism and whatever. Why not study the Founders themselves rather than do this silly bullshit? Also we know almost nothing about Germanic paganism, especially Anglo/German paganism as precious as our few sources on them are.

Why would you cherrypick 18th century Anglo-American weebery for Greeks/Romans while trying to completely ignore or get in some bizarre cognitive dissonance over their love for the ancient Israelites? This is STUPID.

Nothing of what you say matter because the point is that America being modeled after the roman republic draws a connection that makes easier for people to be drawn to it and identify with aspect of their spirituality, regardless of the way the founding fathers reason to look up to Rome (that have almost nothing to do with Christianity as they specifically admired the structure of the republic and didn't liked the empire)
Also the fact that little is know about non-norse germanic paganism doesn't matter because the people looking at it can still draw enough of a sense of connection
I think you didn't tried to consider anything that I wrote and just want to pick straws to bitch about people looking at places you don't like for spirituality

America was not modeled after the Roman Republic. The Roman Republic didn't even have elected officials. In fact, most of the Neoclassical shit that old American Federal architecture is associated with wasn't even built until the middle of the 19th century.

The government was based more on Roman and Greek government than anything else. Of course contemporary European politics and philosophy played a role as well. All we hear from talking heads today is Judeo-Christian. Meanwhile Greco-Roman played a large role. Andrew Jackson got made fun of for not knowing Greek. Even before in Europe among the learned class Greek and Latin were important languages.

"British" didn't exist when Norse paganism was dominant in the region. The only reason it exists as a unified kingdom is because the region was homogenized by various missionaries who spread Christianity.
