I find Beria quite fascinating because he seemingly had modest beginnings as a pencil pusher in Georgia during the early years of the USSR and gradually climbed the ranks until he ascended to a position in the central government and became a key figure in Stalin’s circle. He was also seemingly very successful in basically carrying out any task assigned to him, like procuring nuclear weapons for the USSR. I’ve always wondered what he would’ve been like had he been successful in succeeding Stalin. Not sure if him being Georgian also helped him gain favour with Stalin.
