>The middle ages were actually quite fun if you were nobility.
>Ancient rome wasnt that bad if you just werent born a slave
>The pharaos lived quite lavish lives in ancient egypt

Is history trying to tell us that life is actually quite good no matter when you lived as long as you're not a pleb?

Thats literally communism. You need to be happy with the economic output or you are a traitor! No shoes? Thats what the president intention! The whole economy running on corn syrup? Yep, thats what you need. If you disagree you are a traitor!

It's not communism, communists are all day dreaming fools who think they're staring in their own personal TV show and they're going to be the key leader that props up Lenin 2.0 to lead the revolution or that their preaching to stupid sheep will unlock some sort of magical class-consciousness will lead to Utopia. Once again, fantasy. Unhealthy delusions. Best you can hope is a cozy job, wife and kids, house and retirement, but you have the solid guarantee of death eternal in every case. Human life is fragile and fleeting, enjoy what you have, take what you can without being consumed in nonsense.

The absolute best you can achieve is a middle management position in the regime of your choosing and even that will require cut-throat psychopathy, which neither I nor you have.

You get to shit in a toilet, you have air conditioning, and you can eat pizza hut every day. Kings couldn't do any of that awesome stuff

>The middle ages were actually quite fun if you were nobility.
>most of what they did was play family game night games with occasional small game hunting
Thanks but I will pass on eternal thanksgiving.
>"but I would be above... everyone!"
You could also retire to Bangladesh or Congo or rural India, build a compound, and live the same sort of existence but won't.

>egypt
>cloistered existence filled with highly choreographed oriental mystic/ritual nonsense, occasionally broken up by a tiki tour on a grass boat
pass

>rome
>not necessary to directly administer/interact with zero-days-of-school toothless peasants (slaves) who live in/smell like shit
>can live in the city
>theatre, racing, gambling, sauna, seggs, well developed culinary scene, vacation homes, parties, yachts, bars, and so on
despite the gap in time all of us would fit in and enjoy rome more than any other point, even 25o years ago

I don't have air conditioning and I'm expected to view fast food as "rich people food", I get abused for eating anything they think isn't "peasant food" which includes pretty much all modern food. A medieval king would have ate much better than me and had a better life than me in general. I get abused, harassed, terrorized, threatened, etc all day every day. Kings were secure, comfortable, they didn't have to fear slavery, rape, violence or tolerate abuse, harassment, threats, etc.

That’s all technology, though. That’s not a real QoL comparison. I think the Middle Ages were a nice time to live in, except for plague periods. The Roman and pre-Roman eras were so much harsher for the average person. This was all due to human rights advancements.

ancient rome and early islamic empires had the best living standards before the industrial revolution

the middle ages (at least the high middle ages) were comparatively better compared to the early modern period

Being a noble or a patrician or a member of the royal family was definitely not "fun". If was emotionally cold and restricting because you were essentially an asset to your dynasty. You had privileges but these came with duties and essentially existed to enable your functioning as a noble, not make it comfortable.

>ancient rome and early islamic empires had the best living standards before the industrial revolution
16th-18thc England, the Dutch republic, Northern Italy, and possibly Japan are arguably better for elites, but certainly better for everyone else.
>the middle ages (at least the high middle ages) were comparatively better compared to the early modern period
I completely disagree. In what way were the high middle ages at all better?

nta but the 16th-18th centuries were grim.
Endless religious slaughters, brutal wars for inheritance, moslems raiding half of Europe until they had to be dealt with in huge wars, countless petty cabinet wars and a general impoverishing of people which culminated in a devastating "revolution" and the huge rural flight migrations in the 19th century, leading to the proletariat and all the consequences stemming from that.
The high middle ages can be considered to have had a good standard of living because while it was a rigid feudal society, it was also pretty uneventful and had this romantic flair to it, with the noble knights in their pretty castles and the general colorful fashion of the time. No plague, no famines, no Ottomans, no religious wars. Then it all collapsed in famine, disease, war and death.

After the black plague.
In general, any period after catastrophic mass deaths is good for the survivors. Lots of land to claim, without any real resistance.

NTA modern people have dramatically better capabilities than people in the past. Their lack of capability was balanced by the world having no restrictions on human expansion, purpose, or ownership. The further back you go, the more mysterious and wonderful the world was, humanity full of potential, God obviously real and other spiritual things. Today you're licensed to operate a steel mech that would pose serious problems for any pre-20th century king or elite warriors, but you've become so powerful that the interest shifts to keeping you in place and in between the lines. There are too many geniuses.
