Whatever happened to "hysteria". Everyone used to have it. It was a serious disease that tens of thousands of people got hospitalized for. And then it disappeared. How did we cure it?

Schizophrenia and ADHD have biological evidence. Hysteria was just a grab-bag term used almost exclusively for women who were too emotional.

In some cases, hysteria was prescribed to women if they expressed the desire to not marry.
It was always made up. The actual illnesses are more known now, when they actually exist.

Contrary to what people might think. Schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder aren't diagnosed using complicated tests, brain scans, blood tests, biopsies, etc. They're diagnosed in a 5 minute interview with a doctor who sees 100 people a day. And how a patient behaves in that interview may not reflect how they normally act. You already knew that though.
