All of the NATO allies by law would have to defend Canada plus all of America's enemies would take the opportunity to dogpile and cutoff their oil supply lines and imports of goods from overseas

beceause when the US seriously attempted it the nations military was a massive shitshow that was just barely getting on its feet, and after 1812 relations with Britain started to solidify meaning even when the military was in a more proper state the prospect of a military campaign against Canada was undesirable

Also, most of Canada is pretty undesirable. The cities are okay. Northern Canada is basically worthless. The country is really only good for its natural resources, which they don’t really take advantage of.

Incredibly bad burger luck mostly. There were several occasions where Canada should have fallen to the US. Geographically it doesn’t really make sense that Britain could hold it in the face of burger aggression. Jefferson deserves a lot more criticism for blocking all attempts to create a professional US Army and navy in the early 1800s. As much as people like to portray him as this master statesman that was a really stupid decision in hindsight. The US was 100% capable of winning the war of 1812 had it been more prepared.
