The opposite of the problem we have today.

People were understimulated, they were exposed to relatively little media. For most people growing up, the height of entertainment was some picture books and the ocasional Vaudville show.

Then Hollywood happens and they are suddenly exposed to moving pictures with some of the most good looking and charismatic people further enhanced with at the time most advanced dramatic techniques. Naturally people lose their fucking minds.

Today we are overstimulated, we are bombarded constantly by extremely strong stimuli and are completely desensitized. If you brought back a modern movie or broadway musical to the 1930s, it would cause full-on riots, or people would consider it a religious experience and you could form a cult around it.
