You must be retarded if you think any of those painters existed in inherent opposition to eachother. Doubly so if you think they somehow represented diverging paths Western painting could go down. I dont subscribe to Jung's psychological model but he probably made the correct connection with Wotan, Germany and Hitler. The other examples I can point out are France and Napoleon, as well as Turks and Ataturk.

Hitler was a fan of Wagner and most Germans at the time would have known Wotan from watching Wagner's operas. Hitler himself claimed to be possessed by an aryan spirit, although he wasn't quite as obsessed with paganism as Himmler.
