We do 100% know for certain that LLMs are literally built to just make up shit, if that's the question.
Question is just if they're making up shit within a range of tolerance narrow enough for the result to be useful.

The real miracle is that we have come up with useful machines that are explicitly built on understanding that they have no fucking idea what is even.
