Well, anon, for me humanism is a fact, rooted in our biology.
Humans, as social animals, are able to feel shame, guilt and empathy. Due to that, humans more often than not choose diplomacy over violence. In addition to that, co-operation is part of our species survival strategy. The fact that we could create mindblowing civilisations just adds more proof to the natural "goodwill" of a generic human being.
Humans are, on a biological level, "good" and prefer acts of creation over those of destruction. That's humanism for me.
