The Norse and others were pretty big on avenging feuds and avenging slights, but they still believed one could be redeemed or humbled.

Was there ever a culture so spiteful and choleric the very idea of redemption doesn't compute and torture and cruelty is entirely justified if done against those who caused a wrong?

Like basically I'm trying to come up with ideas for a fantasy alien race, but I want to see if there are examples from history

Classic trope would be for your aliens to have a ritual of "exiling" a member, probably leaving some sort of a mark on their body so the rest of the society would know they're dealing with a criminal.

The idea I have is they (the aliens) have incredibly unusual and cruel punishments even for the most cruel slights so their society is extremely stiff and orderly, and to an outsider almost utopian, the irony is it's kept that way by the most abject fear and there's a widespread sadism against those wo do the slight because they are "dehumanized" (de-alienized?), so peeling off their skin while still alive and pouring hot oil on the exposed flesh while gathering people to watch as entertainment is considered not only acceptable but wholesome family entertainment.

They're a subversion of the "order good, chaos bad mkay" basically.

That's a trope, yeah, but to make it interesting it needs a twist, like make them not understand the concepts of pain, because the first time they feel it is when they get punished/killed. You can make it a bit satiric as well. Make alien hierarchy based of how many times they proofed that someone else offended them, which basically means death, so the most "offendable" would bear the most power over others.

In a way they do understand pain and brutality and abhor it pretty much, they just think its entirely okay, necessary and good to dish out pain in the unpersoned because in their eyes, they deserve it and aren't people anymore anyway and their very existence is an affront, so they can do everything, it's less they dont understand pain or cruelty and more that they think there are acceotabke targets for it

Idea for the story is character, human astronaut, gets captured by their fleet and brought to their planet for studies, at first integrates really well but then breaks a core rule accidently and all hell breaks lose

He tries to apollgize, but they have no concept of apologizing and vengeance is a holy affair, sadism is both funny and delightful when done against acceptable targets

maybe their aristocracy or high-class citizens demand more sophisticated rules of behaviour around them, and each time they are able to prove that someone offended them, they get a little bit more of extra ritual added onto their "title"

Though an interesting idea, remember, from the human MC perspective their society at first looks like an utopia, especially compared to chaotic and cyberpunk as hell earth from MC's time so he idealizes them at first until proven sorely wrong. Kinda hard for him to do that with mfs with titles like "Brutalizer of thousands of scum".

These people violate my literal mind, and abuse, harass, terrorize, threaten etc me for the literal private thoughts in my mind, they do this all day every day, gangstalking me and harassing, terrorizing, abusing, threatening etc me for literally anything I think or do, this is one of the evilest things imaginable. This is just the constant, all day every day wrongs they are doing to me, it's not "minor", you can't justify or minimize it by saying "it's not a big deal", it absolutely wouldn't be wrong for me to kill the people doing it, and this isn't counting the actual violence, theft, sexual abuse, rape, infliction of harm and other abuse, just the violation of my mind alone would justify severe extreme violent revenge. They expect that I should "forgive them" while they continue to do it every day, they think they can use me thinking about outer space as an excuse to sexually abuse me then act like I'm somehow wrong for hating them despite their behavior never changing or being recompensed whatsoever.
