What's the most disappointing civilization in history?

probably Amerindians. clearly they had potential and great civilisational attainments. then they stagnated technologically, and were wiped out within two generations of making contact with others. now the valuable elements of their culture are lost forever.
if i had to nominate a #2, i'd probably say abos. i had extremely low expectations and they still underperformed.
i hate south americans but i don't think they qualify as a separate civilisation, it's more like a bad spinoff of western civilisation.

Latinos are, according to Spengler, the first felaheen of the faustian civilisation, basically peasants, concerned with nothing but having enough money and food to make it to the next day. They don't have a sense of grandure, no sense of destiny, they don't live towards something, they just live, an ahistorical life, comparable to Roman peasants of 4th and 5th centuries or Egyptian river farmers after the birth of christ o algo. Maybe one day they will become their own civilisation, or several for that matter, but not today.

Why are they a playable civilization in civ 5?

the fault does not lie with the abos. they are the obvious end product of when you take a pure people living in perfect harmony with god's creation and subject them to soulless industrial angloisms. the same thing happened to polynesians. shame on anglos. you ruined a whole people and for what? a bit of land? inhospitable, deadly land? god will judge you harshly.
