Pax Britannica
Name one negative aspect of the British Empire that wasn't ultimately outweighed by the positives.

They ended suttee in India. They built railways and infrastructure across three continents. They established the framework for modern legal and administrative systems. They pioneered the abolition of slavery. The *atrocities* were either exaggerated, standard practice for the time, or a result of local incompetence, not malicious policy. The world would be a far poorer, more divided, and more backward place without the Pax Britannica.

The British Empire gets so much shit but honestly I agree with you. It wasn't especially bad. They didn't do anything which other empires didn't do too, and many of these other empires were far more violent and malevolent.

Out of the four powers of the 19th century (England, America, France, Russia); England was obviously the least evil.
But is that really a high bar?

Saying this is like saying the Germans ended the Holocaust if in some alternat world they stopped half way through. "Its okay guys, we only killed 4 million rather than 6!" Britain was the greatest benefactor outside Portugal of the slave trade and only ended it much later on when it no longer became profitable for them (the loss of the Americas). The British have no justifiable reason to pat themselves on the back for this and they openly refused to end the slave trade directly when it was still benefiting them (parliament refusing colonial Virginia's request to stop importing slaves to Virginia).

Capitalism, international finance, Rothschild banks, globalism.
What is wrong during the current Pax Americana has its roots in the Pax Britannica.
