I know this sounds crazy but there was more to the Disarmed Enemy Forces designation than just "the Geneva Convention doesn't apply to them lol". For instance, it permitted for Feldgendarmeries to be kept under arms and assist in occupation duties (including running prison camps). In fact, it wasn't until August, 1946 that they formally laid down their arms, marking the final dissolution of the Wehrmacht as an institution.
