USSR basically bancrupted.for example in the 1990s, Russia had a problem paying pensions due to a lack of money.

While almost every other developed country remembers the 80s fondly, the 80s sucked for Russia. They ran out of money. Russians saw what was going on in other countries and wondered why they couldn't have that there.
