Can we all agree that yes, the holocaust did in fact happen, but that the 6 million number is a gross exaggeration?

Can we also agree that the embellishments and in some case flat out lies from the official narrative only serve to cast doubt on the holocaust as a whole?

It's not. It may be a difficult number to believe but the Nazis were absolutely capable of doing this. In fact several Nazi officials implied that they were capable of even more than this.

This also ignores all the non-Jews that died in the Holocaust such as the Romani. If you include them as well the number is estimated to be as high as 11 million in total

1.) Survivor testimony is the lowest form of evidence. When people took samples of the ground from the alleged "death" camps, or samples from the supposed gas chambers, and come to the truthful conclusion, they get punished. In fact, state funded scientists could easily check if the grounds were disturbed (burial pits), find teeth/bones/ashes (from people/wood)... Yet none. All they have are words and pictures from labour camps.
2.) People died from typhus. Accounts from german soldiers aren't reliable; the clever ones will play along to get a lesser sentence. Look at Kurt Gerstein for example, he played along but added absurdities (e.g. 25 milliom gassed) to his accounts as a whistleblow. He was not the only one in this
