Its always been about appearance. The phenotype, how you immediately recognize and categorized someone is more important then having them produce some 10 page document proving their whiteness.

Within ethnic groups, phenotype is less important as language and religion are greater in group identitiers. With the amerigolimification and tiktokization of the west, there is only appearance.
