Say what you will, but in the following 25 years we defeated terrorism and won the war against it. Nothing like this will ever happen again.

This board will officially be dead in just a years' time. I don't think /his/ is going to be able to handle the influx of /pol/tards and /int/ cancer that will result in airplane buildings day becoming ontopic. But the way things are going hopefully this entire website will be gone by then anyways

Millennial forum culture is gone

So free speech and anonymous speech was cool for a while and now the culture is much shittier and more disjointed than before eh? I miss back when Hollywood distracted me with cool single anti-hero alphas who cared too much about busting bad guys to give thier fleeing wife and family a second thought and depressing psychedelic drug promoting tunes.
Take me back,
To when real conspiracys were only word of mouth,
Take me back,
To when movies had boobies,
Take me back,
To when smoking was coolol,
Take me back,
To when drug tattoos were just starting,
Yheaaaaa, Take me back.

When did internet culture die for you?
For me it seems like a slow death throughout the 2010s, it started to wane in 2010 and by 2020 is was completely gone. I still can't pinpoint exactly what changed. I think as time went on, what we did on the internet started having more and more real world consequences so eventually the fun and shitposting stopped because people started feeling like they had hills to die on more and more. Back in the 2000s nobody took the internet seriously yet, and if you did then everyone called you out for it, and I think people back then just left their real life problems in the real world and didn't take that shit to the internet because 1.) people used the internet specifically to escape the real world and say shit you couldn't normally say in real life and just shoot the shit and 2.) legionfags would be on your ass to doxx you.

It's already dead because it's like jannies abandoned this board. When some tripfag can make 3-5 religious shitlost threads that stay up for days you know this board doesn't get much care or attention.
Maybe next batch of jannies will be better. One can hope.

Reddit happened, Twitter happened. Soulless content slop threadmills where it isn't about a peer-to-peer conversations but about shouting into the void (on topic) and "being in it" became the new hotness. In the past, forums were communities where people talked about a subject in a relatively controlled environment. Then all hell broke loose with the advent of social media. The first wave of these was blogs, which was better than comment sections because comments were terrible. Then it became "Twitter" then "Instagram". It happened a bunch of times. Each time it went further into the gutter. Social media became less about the community and more about the platform. It became more about showing your presence and less about having discussions. The social web became all about signaling to each other that you were there. I can't pinpoint the single thing, but I know the trend. From a community perspective, the biggest loss is that there are fewer public archives. The rise of the echo chamber is closely connected to this. There used to be an effort to curate online communities. In practice, that meant that you could find communities based on merit, not based on whether someone has a large following or who they're "followed" by.

Maybe, I still think the primary issue is that people stopped leaving their real life problems at the fucking door. Websites like Reddit and Twitter are the worst when it comes to this and they seem to exclusively attract people with deep personal issues that use the internet to vent and the worst part is that people who are equally broken are there to reaffirm them. The internet just wasn't like that before. I think it's also because the way these websites are designed to promote posts that feed an algorithm, and the best way to feed that algorithm is to vent personal issues rather than engage in some level of discussion or pub chat. This is also around the time that dialogue on the internet became more policed to avoid offending others because the main userbase of internet users were no longer 20-somethings out of college but were now 40 year old midwestern cat ladies.

US soldiers completely whipped the Taliban which is why they were able to sit in Kabul for 20 years. 2-3 casualties per week for 20 years is a lower murder rate than almost any major American city. If you grew up in Detroit being stationed in Kabul was like a vacation.

Thats because mutts sat in their bases doing nothing, it was Afghan/Iraqi armies that did most of the combat during the wars and the us just provided air cover. So if you count only them the k/d ratio is almost the same. They also didn’t have control outside of the capital in Afghanistan and Iraq.

This right here is why you never allow turdies access to their own funding. If we had continued to be the paymaster and dole out the wages the afghan army wouldve held out much better. But why die when the officers havent paid you in months?

The internet changed because of each successive generation of children raised on it. Kids born in 1995 are now 30, and as time/tech moves forward more children get access to the internet younger ages. If you were not a well adjusted adult when you began using the internet it would imprint itself upon you in strange ways and cause maladaptive coping mechanisms/thought patterns to arise. What changed on the internet is the psychosis it imprinted upon its young users and the frantic attempts to both accelerate and prevent this from actors with every different type of motivation. It's akin to the invention of writing or electricity for human history, things will literally never be the same and the impact it will have on our development as a species is unknown.
