Barbarossa was a pre-emptive invasion of the USSR by Hitler because he realized that Japan was getting ready to attack the US and would no longer be putting pressure on the Russias Eastern Flank

How exactly does Caesar being defeated mean that the Roman state would be destroyed? They were still capable of conscripting hundreds of thousands of men who could be lead by skilled commanders and over 3000 kilometers of land between them and Rome.
