Why did non-English groups tolerate England’s control over the political, cultural, and military affairs of the British Isles? Why didn’t they resist to assert their sovereignty and claim equal status with the English?

England has always had several times the population than the rest of this mess combined, and their advantage only grew in time

>Why doesn't [random trailer park deep in parts of Arkansas nobody else has ever heard of) just assert their sovereignty and claim equal political status with the entire Federal Government?

Do you see how that sounds OP?

I mean, they tried, Scotland most often - usually as a pawn of France in the Millennium long conflict between the Frogeaters and the English - and it never ended well for them. After a while though English rule turned the minor countries into prosperous, developed, and well governed societies that their inhabitants could be proud of. Then, a few decades ago, their descendants decided that that was a form of oppression and started whining about it.

Because Old English (German) is a superior language to Celtic babble. Even the modern Normanized English language is superior. Why should they be ungrateful for being civilized?

They had more than 10x the population of Ireland up to 1600-ish, but then by 1850 it was only 2x. Today it's back up to 10x or 12x.

But yeah it was a population thing.

So English rule is good for the population of Ireland, and without it they're reduced to begging the world for immigrants to maintain their population/economy?

I don't think a generation passed between the 1500s and 1900s that didn't have one large rebellion against England in Ireland.

Scots monarchs were mostly Lowlanders, and Scots Lowlanders were about as Scottish as the population of Southern England.
