Is being a creature of pleasure and vice nobler than edifying one's soul and working towards something greater than yourself? No.
Depending on what said work is, one could argue it's not even work.

Going to a stadium to watch a game will always be infinitely superior than selling hotdogs at said game, instead of being somewhere else after your own entertainments. Knowing how to build a stadium and having the capacity to do so, however, is superior to both other options, since they rely on this to exist.
