How did every Anglo nation become a police state when historically the English were fiercely anti-police? City police were considered a symbol of French tyranny, while the county sheriff system was tolerated at best, demonized at worst. (Obvious example being Robin Hood) Britain was arguably the most anti-police nation in Europe, only surpassed by the American colonies inherited disdain for authority. So why did Britain, Canada, Australia and New Zealand become some of the most authoritarian nations in the western world?
