I know this not because I have a higher IQ (mine's only 150) but because I've done psychedelics and I'm very confident he hasn't. He rationally argues that reality has to be self-referential, self-consistent, and self-defining. This means reality has a nature of some kind, and we just have to figure out what that thing is which fits neatly into this category. Langan notices then, that, as far as he can tell, all real and imagined things are isomorphic to a definition (they map onto each other). So he looks at this and says the self-referential/consistent/defining thing which reality is is actually a language, since it can fit in there. However he's wrong that all real or imagined things are isomorphic to a definition. Anyone who has done psychedelics has seen firsthand the ineffable. INEFFABLE. What you are witnessing DOES NOT MAP ON TO A DEFINITION. Langan can't comprehend this because he hasn't lost his metaphysical virginity yet and taken the red pill of drugs. In fact when one sees this ineffable mystical state one realizes it IS reality laid bare, like the Buddhists say. So if the nature of reality is beyond language, how can the nature of reality BE language like he says? This means he also hasn't proven the existence of god, the soul, and, MOST IMPORTANTLY, HELL. Obviously those things could still exist, but his theory is trash. Oh and he thinks unconditional love is impossible so tell your mom she doesn't actually love you the way she thinks she does because the smart man said so.

It's kind of like theoretical physics. There's something out there governing why things happen the way they do. We just haven't found it yet.

Things that we apply human intuition to as simple as the nature of frozen water are possibly wrong. I was reading through some quantum theory and its funny how much of it is just as he said, creating a 3d map of reality using preconceived "laws" or "languages" like electromagnetism or gravity. We can plot these concepts on a map to create the best possible representation of reality but we know the language we came up with is wrong. And some theorize there's dozens of unseen languages at work and we're just scratching the surface of approximation
