Where were latinos ranked within segregation?

White when it was convenient and black when it wasn't. Browns were always "other" in Anglo society even today

Hispanics faced discrimination, but it was more along the lines of being a second class citizen, rather than a black person .

Hispanics in the US had a notable history of fighting for their civil liberties by fighting for their legal status as Whites within the American social structure, rather than fighting for equality between everyone. Hispnanics could actually integrate and assimilate. The ball breaking hispanics got was more along the lines of "you're not REALLY TRULY white" rather than "let's hang this guy for being black"

they basically didn't exist, so it was a non issue
race mixing, which creates brown people, was illegal

Jim Crow defined "white" as "everything but black" so yes beaners would have been considered legally white.

beaners didn't even exist in the south at the time and if they did they would probably be treated the same as blacks seeing as they probably weren't citizens

that's what broke the system after WWII. servicemen came back with Japanese brides who found that they were considered legally white and thus the separate but equal meme fell apart when it became obvious that Jim Crow laws were targeted at blacks and not actually meant to give every race separate but equal accommodations.

God damn, you jew tarded retards are obnoxious. No Oceania, Eurasia and Eastasia have not always been at war, and America was not always infested with brownoid race mixed slave laborers. You jew tarded retards think that if you just spam your bullshit lies often enough that you can redefine the past in order to control the present, its obnoxious and too obvious which is why nobody believes your bullshit.

Because beaners are civilized. Most are honorable people. They may tend towards low intellect, but they tend to accept manual labor jobs with appreciation and hard work.

They don't create anything like nigger ghettos where a man will rob his own mother for another crack rock.

Not to mention, back in the mid 60s, seeing a Mexican out of the Southwest or a Cuban outside of Florida, was an absolute rarity. The tended to stay in their own pockets of the US.

At that time I believe the descendants of Spanish colonial settlers still greatly outnumbered Mestizo immigrants, and those guys were considered white. Some of them, like Leander Perez, were diehard segregationists.

blatantly untrue. latino people were considered nonwhite and weren't allowed to marry white people and there were multiple campaigns where the us government deported thousands of people for being brown.

>latino people were considered nonwhite
Though Hispanics weren't seen as white by the Anglos, they were generally legally white and thought of themselves as such

>and weren't allowed to marry white people
Only if the Hispanic person was determined to be "black" or "Asian"

>and there were multiple campaigns where the us government deported thousands of people for being brown.

What evidence is there for this? Mexican and white were separate categorizes on census since 1930s. Intermarriage between whites and mexicans was illegal in California

So Canarians who settled in Mexico aren't white, but Canarians who settled in Louisiana are?
Anonymous No.18064140

"Latinos" as they're called today weren't yet seen as a distinct racial group strictly separate from white people at this time. They were seen as basically Spaniards with too much Indian blood, not completely white, mutts in short. Miscegenation laws were thus malleable. Mexicans and others generally thought of themselves as whites and they would fervently defend their rights as whites.

The creation of Hispanics as a sort of racial group would rise in the second half of the 20th century. Before they were seen as a third race, miscegenation laws were gone.

This new category was literally overturned the very next census because of backlash from Mexican-Americans.

It depends. Since law mostly focused on just blacks and whites, people who weren't either were sometimes classified with the whites or with the blacks depending on circumstance. There wasn't consistency.

Generally, someone who is hispanic would likely be allowed to dine in a whites only restaurant more often than not. Especially if they have more European ancestry.
