It's a historical, and physical, impossibility that they were actually fast as lightning. This is why primary sources need to be viewed critically.

China was just starting to open up after Nixon, so Chinese Kung-Fu was seen as the hip new, exotic thing, while Japanese karate, judo and aikido were already a bit "old"/well known by this point.

Japanese martial arts are 10000% legit. Chinese """martial arts"""" are 100000% illegit.

Ironically, many Japanese styles trace their roots back to China, or were developed to defend and defeat Chinese tactics, but the Nips took it seriously and make multiple amazingly effective systems, while the Chinese just spiraled down the path of Wu-Wu bullshit, never to recover again.

It's amazing how there can be +1 billion Chinks and Jeets and ZERO decent wrestlers, boxers, mma, or any other sort of fight sport. They're about the same size as Mexicans, but have zero SOVL or warrior spirit, like Central and South Americans.

> implying there was some kind of "everybody" doing kung fu
You fell for the boomer nostalgia bait. The vast majority of people were not doing that sh*t. You had like, what, three popular movies and a TV show? For every kid in a dojo there were 10000 fatasses watching Brady Bunch and eating leaded gasoline paint chips.

Hong Kong. Their film industry exploded then and made kung fu very popular
