Because religion, at least in its Abrahamic form, is essentially nothing more than the excuse and cope people present in order to never share power with anyone. In essence, democracy and politics were made to be able to effectively and honestly share power with people who are different than you, and Abrahamic religions are all the various excuses on order to bypass democracy and politics entirely. That's why the religious can never admit being wrong or immoral on anything, because would undermine the singular sacred goal of religion, which is to never share power with anyone, other than yourself and those directly around you. Without the factor of power, there's no thing as religion, or at least no such thing as mass religion

It's a good question, but there are answers.
I mean most theologies talk about how God wants us to strive to be better people.
And if there weren't problems within the natural world, there would be nothing to strive to fix. It would also suggest that the only problems are man-made in origin. Which if you believe God loves us, he wouldn't want to imply.

So, while the problem of evil is a perfectly understandable reason to not believe in an all good, all powerful God; it isn't any kind of bullet proof argument to the existence of such a God.
