America started as a secular nation founded by Enlightenment thinkers influenced by Greco Roman thinking. It was in the 1950s that this secularism failed.

18th century secularism meant believing in a God who created the universe and then came up with the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of property (including slaves as property), but immediately afterwards decided to stop interfering with the universe for no reason.
21st century secularism means what this person (guy? woman? otherkin?) >>18136577 greentexted, but also love and compassion for refugees and immigrants.

Technically speaking, no atheist or irreligious movement has ever fully embraced true moral nihilism even though it's always been an option. Pyrrho of Elis had a moral system similar to that of Stoics which he picked up in India from the Gymnosophists. David Hume, who did not believe that a human's sense of self was anything but a bundle of impressions, still ended up advocating for morality by using utilitarian justifications for it, even though he admitted that no "ought" can ever be derived from an "is". The New Atheists of 15 years ago were all Utilitarians and embraced the liberalism of their day. Friedrich Nietzsche was clearly against resentment and oppression, even though he tried his hardest not to sound like he was bound by any type of slave-based morality from the present.
Max Stirner can be interpreted as a true nihilist, but even he had to appeal to a certain sense of personal property in order to even defend his own propositions, but then again, much like Deleuze and Guattari in their anti-Marxist, anti-psychoanalytic pair of works titled Capitalism and Schizophrenia, it is very difficult to really know what they proposed because their work does not actually build up any affirmed theory, since it is mostly a criticism of others' work, rather than a true expression of their own beliefs.
