How should we react to the part of our history when our ancestors did bad things? How should we react when our ancestors created possibly the most inhumane slave system in all of human history that still permeates to the present? How should we react when we learn about all the brave, intelligent women burned for suspected "witchcraft" when other civilizations championed women? How should we react when our ancestors participated in such an exploitative colonization that plundered and pillaged wherever it went, still affecting societies to this day?

Pretty much every civilisation in human history has committed every crime you can think of. Some of them are still committing them today. At least the west has acknowledged its dark past and built free, democratic societies based on liberal principles, a concept that has sadly been exploited to death by special interest groups and migrants.
