I mean this is just as true of other religions. It's just someone judging the religion from the outside. To someone who is not a Jew there is no difference between an Orthodox, an Ultraorthodox, a reformist or a Hasidic Jew, they're all the same to him. Same with Islam, there is no difference between a Sufi, a Shia, a Sunni or a Salafi, they're all Muslims to the outsider.

Very. Many people greatly desire the idea that their version of the religion is the sole, true one. And it being 'original' is an important thing to help them feel legitimate. Yet their now orthodox view is not like the original faith.

The original faith means little to the current faithful.
