If you're looking for a place to post your cartooning then you've found the right general. This is /ic/s 1st and only merged hub where both Eastern and Western stylization can coexist peacefully, hence the double title.
>Rules & Guidelines(1) Any form of cartooning is welcome; so submit and receive feedback from others. (2) Please resize your images before posting. (3) Share your knowledge and (4) Remember to not be afraid of asking for critique. Most importantly, keep discussion at a civil level.

I legit think /ic/ is easily one of the most valuable art resources on the web though, it's one of the few places that won't coddle you, so I get a lot of value from it still.

>>7532816/ic/ is certainly a great resource unironically and definitely a large reason I think my art is in a much better place, personally speaking. >>7540303Here's a few attempts I tried.
Top-left is the original, untouched. Top-right I made the lights cool and the shadows warm using the blues and oranges you already had on the canvas. Bottom-left is a gradient map on a layer mode above the original and I just thought it looked neat. Bottom-right is warm lights and cool shadows.
Taking some colors already on the page and blending them in other places, subtly, is a decent way to create harmony with colors. I'm a total dummy though so take all this with a grain of salt.

I was trying to study some methods for colouring with line art, so I studied a bunch of your art. Still trying to learn shit since I've only been drawing seriously for about 4 years and I'm trying to get into animating
>>7564499my art 4 years ago before I owned my first tablet, I just used a mouse
>>7549982Cause I already posted here
>>7547679
>>7547679This appeals to me
>>7564941Your style is fine, you just need to keep strengthening your drawing chops.
>>7564950Personally I think his work is pretty good to amazing, depending on your taste. If he is falling on social media I think is more a matter of subject matter not appealing to a big enough audience or bad advertising. That are things that can be improved for sure, but this is such a fucking vague critique it's not even worth being written.
If I was the guy I would try at least do something different and unusual, like coloring or more insane designs, as good as it is, it's also generic, you trow a rock and you hit at least 20 dudes drawing cute anime girls now a days. If you don't want add something to the formula complaining you are not standing out is straight up retarded.
>>7564967>pretty good to amazingYou are /beg/.
>>7564977Here is a spread of my work in one my recent styles in which I studied for a while, I can provide you with another artstyles, tho, my range is above average. You may judge my technical skill on your own, I'm sure you will let me know what you think.
My point is exactly that, his work has indeed appeal to people with no technical knowledge in drawing, if he is receiving low engagement online I would blame less his lack of skill and more subjective aspects and how they appeal to people, because on a skill level he is already good enough to impress the majority of individuals. What he wants is engagement, a short more efficient way of achieving that would by trying standing out, because for me his biggest weakness on his art style is how visually generic it can be.
>>7564941I see.
You seem competent enough to have a buncha followers already.
But the less people know you, the less people will know you. Get yourself out there - join collaborative drawing sessions (e.g. drawpile thread), art discords, /dad/, etc. If you don't know how or aren't willing to interact and feed the algorithm, you'll still build a following, but it'll be slower. (I should know).
I think you're decent enough for some people to start asking for your blog. All it takes, ideally, is the right user(s) to repost your shit. Keep practicing, improving and alladat.
>>7564994You're clearly going for something very different than OP. Your advice was essentially to do the kind of work you're doing which I don't think is what they want.
OP is showing fundamental technical issues that I don't think they should run away from or try to cover up with gimmicks even if it would get them more followers. Not being able to convincingly convey a basic form like a cylinder is something even normies can clue in on. Overall they seem like someone who has hyper focused on drawing a cute anime face (which they do well) to the detriment of basic fundamentals, which is not uncommon.
>>7565040Maybe, I looked trough my catalog to see if I could find any generic anime girl in it, but even my drawing of the female form often has some retarded shit going on.
I still think he should try to be less generic, it does help on what he wants.
>>7564499I'm glad to hear you consider my art worth studying! You have a good grasp of values which is essential in shading. I personally like doing it in blocks first (either solid black or desaturated & dimmer version of a certain colour) and if I feel like painting I use a textured brush to smudge it. Keep the strokes as minimal as possible to prevent "muddiness"
My english knowledge is quite basic but I hope my remarks came across haha
>>7564856I have 0 cave story knowledge but your art is plenty charming to convince someone to look it up/ be full aware of a character's existence
>>7564450glad to see you posting here again, your art is so good :0
>>7564472I really like your artsyle, I wish I could draw lines like that
>>7565109I posted in the previous thread but it was only b&w (the all ears glasses girl in the current thumbnail haha) I'll try my best to post more than once this time
also you have soulful/ atmospheric art which reminds me that I should step up my experimentation game. It means a lot!
>>7564950Agreed, especially the comment on failing to draw basic shapes. That's an embarrassing realization at this point but it's not the first time my disinterest in fundamentals has bitten me. I have work to do there for sure, thank you.
>>7564994I see the point about generic for sure. I think that I struggle with making fanart in particular interesting. I end up liking my OC stuff better and I should probably lean into that more because it just makes me happier. That or learn how to make fanart that doesn't feel so forced and generic.
>>7565001Thanks anon, I did some of the networking stuff early on but lost interest in it. It's a fair point though that this adds to the feeling of "posting into the void".
>>7564941>>7565413I think this
>>7547679 is not necessarily unappealing, but uninteresting. There's no "personality" radiating from the character; she's just sort of sitting there and smiling vacantly. Maybe experiment with more dynamic poses? Varied facial features? Anything that has the character DOING something, preferably in a way that shows their interesting traits. Like picrel, even though it's just a girl in a white void, the way she's posed and the face she's making give an idea of what her personality's like.
Also look through your gallery and see if you can find any repeating patterns. Too many similar poses, similar compositions, lack of backgrounds etc, and try to just do something new. Often times you don't realize you're making the same mistakes over and over.
>I end up liking my OC stuff better and I should probably lean into that more because it just makes me happier.I would also recommend that. It's anecdotal, but my OC art ends up doing way better than any of my fanarts because I end up pouring a lot more love and attention into them. At the same time though, fanart generally allows you to interact with people that like the same things you do and form connections that way. The "networking" part should feel less corporate and more like just makin' friends.
>>7565413I found your profile and you practically never post. Even last month was only 4 art posts, previous month 1 post, that's not going to cut it. Biggest issue is you need to post more, only god tier artists/artists who are already famous thru something else can get away with barely posting. Your fundies are good enough to get more traction as is but working on it never hurts.
>>7538505>not knowing about Big Barbarian CockNGMI
>>7564941the reason why your art flops on mainstream social media is because it's not something that's interesting to normies on mainstream social media, draw pinups or risque drawings with lots of meat, or draw epic grimdark art, but you're in an odd place inbetween cute and epic, in which it doesn't appeal to anyone other than I guess people interested in drawing itself, and finding value on "the craft"
>>7565619>uninteresting. There's no "personality" radiating from the character; she's just sort of sitting there and smiling vacantlyAgreed. This again feels like a fundies problem because I'm not studying people actually doing anything. Pretty much just faces and vibing.
>>7565644Yeah for sure. That sort of comes back to "blaming the algorithm" and networking convo, but yeah I definitely don't post enough. Partially cause all my art time this past year goes to painting, and they photograph like total shit so I never want to post WIPs or anything.
>>7565827>you're in an odd place inbetween cute and epic, in which it doesn't appeal to anyone other than I guess people interested in drawing itselfA very interesting point actually. I definitely feel that.

>>7569880>I don't have the skills to make an animation yetyou have the drawing skills needed to get started though, just need to learn how to animate, simplify your designs if it seems daunting
>>7569871>>7569880Loving the forms. Imposing and unique artstyle.
>>7568545>I don't see the resemblance lol.No so much the Marathon art style itself, but that trailer he directed. Similar vibe with fish eye lens and that deep blue open sky.
>>7568545I love your style. What do you use? Coloring linework can sometimes be tedious, but in my experience. Clip Studio Paint has some really cool lasso tools that make the color process much less tedious and enjoyable.

I can't even quote all of them because 4chan thinks is spam.
guh.... i probably should...................................................................
and ye, it was pretty lazy coloring tho, kind of cumbersome in flockmod cuz there's no layers. if I draw more in sai i might make something more proper
>>7579057I know, fren, I seem you there, and I also only use fm, you really don't need layers to draw. layers was a concept created by the jew to keep the ubermensch down. if you understand colors, values, layers and lines are all a bs concept anyway, you need to shred this concept alway to really understand how to use that software. Learn how to use blend values with brushes alone and you will be fine, is actually better than layers.
>>7579060ye sry i misspoke its more the lack of undo, no layers is fine, but you can't fill without undo.... oh wait a minute i think you can actually, i'll try something later.
and gosh i can't blend things like that, I want to just bucket fill to get it over with. the moment i start scritch scratching, all i can think about is how long it takes. genuinely upsets me

>>7577524>>7577633damn I love these so much...
what pen/marker did u use for the black bits? Lineweight makes the sketches look really dynamic.
>>7582497thank u

I tried something new with this, Iโm gonna try to get better at whatever the fuck I was attempting
I've been drawing without pen pressure for a couple years now, and i recently turned it back on and wow i actually LIKE coloring things now. I'm looking at this line art and i don't even have to force myself do it, I actually want to color it, it just.. looks like something I want to color, completely natural.
honestly i haven't had this much fun drawing in a long time. crazy how much a neat idea can screw you over. gosh there is so much I want to write about this.

>>7577383unironically AI.
Hobby artists were the life's blood of /ic/, and a good chunk of them peaced out after the release of AI models like DALLE and MidJourney.
>>7593268Yeah, but not for the reason you think. It was because /ic/ got too insufferable with all the pajeet spam and worthless bait like your post. They're all in discord now.
>>7593276its not bait and ive watched this board decline ever since COVID era, which was arguably highest amount of traffic its ever gotten.
>>7593677get gate kept, fag.
>>7593855Fair, I'm pretty new to this side of /ic/ (hence why I asked). alright then

>>7593852What markers? Mixed media?
>>7594099thank
>>7594141>mixed mediaFlat-color parts are offbrand alcohol markers
The black hatching is a .2 mm Micron
Bold black lines are an Itoya Doubleheader
And then the little red guys at the bottom are a red .2 Micron versus an offbrand fineliner
>>7564856I really like this one
Looking for critique on this. Still getting the hang of good body proportions

>>7594391Your forms are pretty flat. Study perspective and apply it to your art (i.e. using 3d forms to construct your characters, overlapping forms to impyl depth). I cannot understate how useful it is, even if you go for a more cartoony artstyle. Also never shade with just the airbrush! Hard shadows are important for showing form; hard shadows work in pretty much every scenario, while soft shadows without some hard is uncommon and hard to use (and hard shadows would work just as well anyways)
Picrel is not really a critique, I just liked her design and wanted to draw her. Though you can see how I used perspective, even if subtly, to make her form not feel flat

You wont find those 2 there, though. They're outliers - I tend to use the binary brush almost exclusively.
