i read the first 30 pages or so. if you've read the first chapter of naruto, you've read this. though with this, the flashy line weight gets in the way of readability pretty often, and the story isn't much to write home about, despite the unique angle of approach.
i love this sort of dirty sloppy street culture inspired art, and would love to make stuff in this style, but then i remember that I'm a pasty whiteboy reclusive shut-in who's been living in the suburbs my whole life and thus any work i could make would be inauthentic and soulless

So? I don't live in medieval Europe, but that doesn't stop me from reading literature inspired by that period and works written during that period to get a better idea of what monks thought during the 1200's-1500's.

Bro, literally who gives a fuck? If you're drawn to the aesthetic and culture, embrace it. To me this is the art that feels the most satisfying to make. The dynamic angles, bold colors, funkiness. It's all so fucking cool. It can be as deep or as simple as you wanna make it. Look up some street wear, mess around with the proportions of things like sneakers or jackets, use your fave characters, reprise the 2000s. Just get wild with it. It's such a free expressive style.
>>7564107 >and thus any work i could make would be inauthentic and soulless
You considering this as a possibility makes me respect you more than the hundreds of other corny trend hopping zoomer faggots.
>>7565242 >Imagine not doing something you like due to media programmed self hatred.
Having the self awareness to know when you only have a surface level understanding of something is how you avoid making soulless tacky crap and find your own voice as an artist. Because otherwise you wind up with retards repeating the same 3 cliches over and over and saying dumb shit like "just give them big sneakers and jackets" and calling literal magazine ads "street". There was a reason alot of this stuff phased out or got stale the first time.
a lot of these are related, some called shibuya punk, grind fiction, animemo, street neopunk, its awesome how it all related, could thing of as influenced by y2k, hip hop, and how they imagined that "streets" could be in the future....
That's just the style that zoomers like who are "nostalgic" for "y2k" or the 90s. Even though they weren't even alive at that time and know nothing about it aside from tiktok low poly art or brc.
>>7565537
The thread asked specifically for y2k. So that's what's being presented. If the thread has asked for the art in general the scope of content would be much wider. You just seem to have a chip on your shoulder.
>>7565494 >only have a surface level understanding of surface level aesthetic
If the zoomer wants to take his shot at y2k art, I say more power to them. They don't need a subsurface understanding of the times and culture. They need to take what was and make it into what will be. The present has always been defined by the past.
>>7565591 >take his shot at y2k art,
Ah yes "y2k art". The era where stylistic variety and experimentation exploded outwards due to new media and technology being more accessible from internet access becoming more convenient. Yeah everything about that era fits into a neat little thread on your twitter timeline. Yep sharp angles and thick outlines with a gateway pc default background was all anyone every did.
The fact you think this way is evidence you don't understand the spirit of that era.
People >>7565616 are quoting Fred Durst as a representative from that time period when he was clowned as an INAUTHENTIC tryhard loser to the point of full parody songs https://www.youtube.com/watch?app=desktop&v=r9cUWC3pOz0

It doesn't have to be this way. Why do you insist on gatekeeping rather than enriching? Surely you know a thing or two about the culture based off what you're saying. It's clear the people in this thread enjoy the art. Everyone has to start somewhere and rather than ridicule them you can give them something of substance.
>>7565648
There is no way to actually discuss "real" street culture as you imply since it's by definition on the street, any attempts to capture it or recreate it in media will be automatically rendering it fake and poser
Unless you have 20 year old photos of street graffiti I guess, to me contemporary media attempts of capturing the culture are good enough since that's what most people not directly involved in the culture would be exposed to anyway
>>7565918 >any attempts to capture it or recreate it in media will be automatically rendering it fake and poser
Sounds like it captures street culture just right
>>7565893 >Why do you insist on gatekeeping rather than enriching? >Everyone has to start somewhere and rather than ridicule
Calling someone out for being a cringey newbie is a major part of street culture. Imagine going to a local underground rap set and saying "guys be nice to me it's my first day". If you're this much of a pussy about being called a poser you'll never make anything decent in the niche.
The trying too hard to be cool gang, bad theme, you could try it but probably only for a phase. Stencil artists, Banksy, Obey, or 90s pop musicians will help you create what you want. No longevity imo
>>7598479
90s pop musicians, daftpunk, gorillaz, Britney spears, spice Girls, Nirvana, Tupac, green day, radiohead, red hot chili pepper and NSYNC, they all Ballin for the "I'm the most cool gang" good luck kiddo.

I know it isnt a style that's just not around anymore, but I do miss the era where it was more front in center, if not THE art style. I look at it similar to how tech was more colorful and transparent in design back then where it was trying to look futuristic in a fun way.
>>7582365
Nobody on the street does this btw. the point of graffiti is actual togetherness, learning, and sticking up for each other in the city. Loners with nobody to teach them are usually the fiurst to get arrested.
Honestly it's funny when people actively try to apply vile angry internet mentality to... well, anything in real life, because when you have to stand in front of someone acting like that will get you punched or thrown out of a group like right away.

It looks like a blue watercolor brush with another layer that's orangeish underneath. I don't think it'd be too hard to replicate. There's definitely a filter on top of it too

It was a shitty arcade style skateboarding game for the ps2. I thought the same thing when I saw it sitting in that shitty florida flea market, so I had to have it. It played like trash and had some interesting character designs and no real story to speak of. 7/10 I'd recommend it if you can even find it anymore.
It even had a tech deck attachment for your ps2 controller.
>>7650098 >It even had a tech deck attachment for your ps2 controller.
nta but i remember that. well it might have been this game but some others might have tried it as well. This was when skateboarding was at its peak popularity after all
