It was published everywhere like some kind of wanted poster. Those other 2 paintings wouldn't be recognized by name by most people, they'd maybe be like "yeah I've seen it before," and possibly guess the artist right. (Before you argue, remember how many can't find anything on a map.) It's a lowest common denominator type thing.
Had it not been stolen or had the news of it not been circulated ad nauseum then it would be almost completely unknown. It's tiny and uninteresting, and quite frankly, it's ugly and forgettable.
But since it became recognizable from being spammed so much and it's simple to reproduce in low resolution print, it paradoxically became memorable and an easy shorthand image for "fine art."
