Started drawing these two originally as just examples of members of one of the factions/races within my biotech themed oc donut steel setting but as I drew them I also worked out a little bit of background lore/story for them.
The lore of the faction (House Baryx) itself is that they are a sort of posthuman aristocrats whose ancestors genetically engineered themselves to a point where they are almost a distinct species when compared to baseline humans.

The lore of the characters themselves is that Vireon and Saelira of are siblings belonging to a powerful family within the faction, who have been most of their lives just pawns in their father's political ambitions, with them having been essentially groomed and tutored to fill specific roles, Vireon to become an accomplished military commander and a successor to his father's tittles and Saelira to be married to a heir of another powerful family within the faction in order to secure alliance. Both have served their father's ambitions well for most of their life, just as they have been in entwined in secret incesteous romance since their adolescence.

And yes, I know that with this backstory, I basically made elven Jaime and Cercei Lanisters out of these two but in my defence, that realization only hit me when I had finished drawing these two.

There are a wide array of niches and markets for this kind of thing, and unless your intent is to draw your own personal THOT(no hate if you do btw) or some mascot character akin to Sanrio then there isnt an inherently obvious answer or gimmick that works that isnt just chasing trends. The one thing I'm worried about with her is that I may have gone too monochrome/muted in the color palette. I wanted her to feel like a veteran/seen too much with the palette, but I may have gone too far? Or am I overthinking it?

Pretty fun story desu, i liked it very much, but i have to be honest and say that i am very stupid. I tought the kids from the cover where Skyler and Ash, and the protagonist didnt had a design. So i designed Evie Brown as a "dark blonde hair tomboy" and didnt notice the protagonist was the oc you sended, in my mind he looked like a ginger or smth lol and tought it was Ash.

So in this draw skyler is skyler, evie brown is ash and pokes holes into his body, and ash is the protagonist with my made up design. So confusing baka
