The Ghibli art style is plain, uninspired, and the actual reasons people love it is because of the quality of stories the style has been attached to, and the fluidity and details of the animations it appears in, not the style itself. I get that it has an innocent charm to it (hence the fun in depicting controversial images in it), but that does not make the style itself anything special when seperated from those stories it's been used in and the quality of animation.

I like the animation quality, not so much the artstyle. It ironically has one of the worst cases of sameface in the medium.
I'm also really sick of DUDE ANIME GRASS FIELD LMAO in media in general.

I never liked how wide-set the eyes are on ghibli characters. The hair also usually lacks a lot of volume.
I think one influence on it becoming popular was because boomers and genx were already familiar with Precious Moments figurines and those have similar-enough proportions to Ghibli that someone into them might chance the movies.

I believe the exact opposite of you. The art style is a great wholesome simplification but the plot is nonexistent. It's like if AI tried to make a plot it is just random scenes and dialogue stitched together with barely enough cohesion to not be noticed by the average stoned/weeb viewer. The skill of the animators is the only reason anyone cares about this schlock.

Nah, it's because it has top japanese animation without the icky animey style so it is more palatable to normalfags. That's all there is to it.

I never understood the crystal significance in Mononoke. The hero gets it from a noname girl from his village which he is supposed to marry at some point, which loves him and wants him to carry the crystal to always remember her. Then in the end he gifts the very same crystal to Mononoke and it's treated as a romantic scene... Are the viewers supposed to be happy that the hero just cucked his village bride and gifted her present to a side hoe?

The girl who gave him the crystal was his sister not his future bride
