what I can tell you is that progress is not linear: whenever you become able to draw accurately simple poses and backgrounds (midbeg I'd say) you break loose of study hell and you start making finished pieces. those learn you how to draw like riding a bike, in a more natural and less intellectualized way than studies of books. your progress becomes exponentially faster at this point

This thread is clearly bait, but if you're a beg that got snagged keep in mind this is a very important mindset to crush. There are no fundamentals you can practice that will transition you into making good finished pieces. At some point you need to transition into making things and it's going to suck that they won't match up to your ambition, but making things out of the fundamentals is a skill that's different from the fundamentals. Figuring out how to apply your fundies in an appealing way and slowly putting all the pieces together into your own style is a part of the process.
