"Perspective Made Easy" by Ernest Norling is a great book for learning the essentials of perspective in a very gently incremented series of lessons. It even shows you how to draw a car (it's a simple, old-fashioned car, but the principles are universal).

I think it's pretty convincing, especially if you're going for a well-worn derby-type racer.

The roof lights are at a strange angle, but in a rough way that helps the car feel like it's cornering. The seating and steering are well out, but looking at any car from that angle will show you where they need to be.
