What the fuck are concept artists and illustrators even doing these days if there are no jobs?
Anonymous No.7621576 [Report] >>7621591
you've been here and on twitter too long if you believe there's no jobs
Anonymous No.7621578 [Report]
They are being pushed to use AI. AI still needs a lot of human input to do its job.

There are jobs, but there are just fewer entry-level jobs now in an already highly competitive industry.

The market overhired during rona and so many people got the idea that they would be able to get a foot in.

Turns out most concept art jobs DO NOT allow you to take what you made as part of your portfolio, it operates off of references (aka cronyism.) A lot of people were just dropped like a hot potato and can't actually get themselves back in.

Hence all the "take my class" grifters who don't know shit.

Playing mercenaries, taking jobs here and there, anything like that. The jobs are still there, its just that its weird. See, I worked as graphic designer irl and they began to enforce the use of AI and ensure that we're being friendly with it. A friend of mine who are illustrating book cover for living said that its either you become a freelancer or have your own IP if you want to survive in this field for several years ahead. Then there's a gap between senior corporate artists and the younger-junior ones, the former encourage the use of AI and the latter are against it, its a weird climate out there

People who get mad at classes are low IQ scum.

Don't worry about cronyism, it barely plays a role and if you believe it does, just get to know people.

Developing their own games and films. Indie projects.

You only get hired through connections which = cronyism. It's not really about your work, it's about how much you can get someone else to vouch for you. Plenty of people who were in the overhiring phase of the last half decade didn't have the amount of time to really make good connections because they barely had time to get established and a lot of it was WFH. Others basically finished their education/training during that time, when networking was retarded because of all the study-from-home shit. And then were faced with the market dumping positions, so they ended up with debt and no job.

"Just get to know people" is literally cronyism. It's not about your portfolio, because your portfolio is kneecapped to whatever crumbs you can negotiate out with your employer or do on your own time. You rarely will get credited in final productions in ways that actually connects your work to your name, as what a concept artist makes is by definition NOT for the light of day, it's internal material.

This is why a lot turned to teaching, but many do it poorly and in a lazy way. So many art channels on youtube are shilling some kind of crappy class.

they're living their life. Concept "artists" and those type of people barely drew to begin with, they can move on. I'm here agonizing over skipping a day of drawing and my friend who wants to make it as a serious artist and concept artist for corporations barely "draws" once a week.

Drinking themselves into an early grave, hopefully, as should be the fate for all industryfags who corrupt the medium

There's like 100 top tier concept artists doing everything. Look at movies.. Ron Cob was the main concept artist on like every big movie in the 80s and 90s. In most creative projects they only need concept artists for a few months of pre-production, so they hire top tier freelancers who work 5-10 jobs a year. The only places that really need tons of concept artists are big content feed types of media like World of Warcraft that is churning out new shit non-stop.

Are you r3t4rd3d anon? genuine question, it seems you're projecting a bit there calling others a low IQ but that externalization of your true self is harmful and self-destructive, please take your meds.
To think, even for a bit, that cronyism barely plays a role tell me that you either never had a job, in any industry not just art, or you're young, immature, naive or straigh up dumb, sorry, no malice here unlike most schizos on this hellhole.
