You reminded me that I recently reinstalled windows but forgot to save all the custom SAI brush settings i've collected over the years and now I have to go around and find those again...

if its backstory isn't covered in the next installment. I swear to god, we need the haunting characters backstory, not the haunted.

Does Sai 2 even have brush settings?
I mean it has a couple of sliders and that just seems to be it.

It's no Clip Studio but there's ways you can get some good looking and feeling brushes. You can combine the brush tip shapes and textures together for some effects. There's also some brushes from artists I like that used or still use sai. The default stuff works just fine too though. Maybe it's just placebo from it being the program I used back in the day but I still really like drawing on it. Brush engine or the fact that it doesn't lag out like CSP can at times.

You forgot something that is missing from your pic, which is skills and/or talent.

I still haven't found a program that feels as light and responsive as SAI 1. Everything else has a slight lag, no matter how fresh and improved my pc is. I still sketch with my first pirated copy of sai 1, I don't know what I'd do without it

I'm pretty sure most of these settings are not in SAI 2.

SAI 2 has the same amount of settings the OG had plus new stuff like scaling and inverting texture, you can totally re-create the older SAI brushes if you wanted. I think the big problem when it comes to SAI is that there's not an easy way to share brushes. With CSP you can export the .sut file and drag/drop right into the brush category, but with SAI you have to navigate to your install folder and copy/paste the settings, bitmap forms, and paper texture in the right folders and THEN you can use your new brushes.
Easy brush sharing and palette editing are like my 2 biggest wishes for making SAI the objjective GOAT art program of all time and not just my personally biased fav program for drawing in.

Any recommended brushes for inking and coloring?

Thanks for answering that anon, I was gonna take a screenshot of where to find the rest of the settings in sai 2 but i'm away from my desk right now. I also think a more streamlined way to share custom brushes would be helpful. I wonder if that's low on the dev's priorities for now though. I just yesterday figured out you can detach the panels to have them floating around the canvas. Editing beyond that is not possible yet but maybe in the future.
I just found where I backed up all my old brush settings though and miraculously have them back so i'm happy again.

What I mean is those last settings at the end, starting with Blending.
The other two above are about making texture patterns, and it's not like they have a lot going on. You can't make super varied brushes with these settings.

If you compere this to Krita's brush engine its not even close.

Not that it has to be. My point was that SAI doesn't really offer much in terms of brush settings.

I used SAI 1 up until just a few months ago... now I use a legit buyed version of 2

They're still there, just in a different menu. You have to press the icon at the bottom left,
>If you compere this to Krita's brush engine its not even close
Yeah, that's true. But to be fair the full name of the program is 'EASY Paint Tool SAI'. The design philosophies of Krita and SAI are just entirely opposite. SAI is for simple illustrations, Krita targets large scale pipelines like game development and animation projects.

I want to do unspeakable things to the quake player.

Anyone know the trick to creatuing brush and texture samples? I tried copying the ones that are already there and using them as a template, but the program keeps telling me that it needs to be a black and white image, even if I completely desaturate the piece. The only thing that seems to work is editing the templates in CSP.

what does a trackball mouse get you for drawing that a normal mouse doesnt

Black and white in this case means that it needs to be in grayscale mode.
You can't change modes directly in SAI but you can edit your textures in another program like Paint.net or GIMP easily.
