I just spent all night (6 hours) on a painstakingly rendered charcoal portrait and only now realized that I catastrophically fucked up his proportions and it's unfixable.

be more mindful/thorough of verifying proportions next time, then. not a big deal.

It's an awful feeling, but you've learned a painful lesson and those are the ones that stick.

Well you practiced your medium, practiced shading and finishing pieces, and you learned a tough lesson of double checking things before moving onto the next steps. So a failure of an image, maybe, but not a waste of time.
