Practicing drawing what you see accurately, alongside drawing from memory/"imagination", is a key part of any effective training. Just look at chatgpt anon's bootcamp and his insane progress in only a few weeks. Any art program worth doing will have eye and memory training because it works, even they don't explicitly label it as such.

Decided to go back to doing Studies for a bit, and started off with hands. Sadly had a migraine after doing the first hand, so had to recover for a week before I could do the remaining three I took screencaps of.

There are loads of errors, which I assure you I did notice, but I can't be perfectionist over everything. I did attempt some shading, I think in the second one it looks okayish, but the third looks pretty bad.

Don’t draw what you think you see or want to see. Try to get your proportions correct. That’s the important part.

If there is a benefit gained from Asian writing systems it's more likely related to the culture- calligraphy seems to more respected as a serious art form in certain Asian countries than in the west. I'd guess there's more Chinese kids who've studied calligraphy in some form than American kids who have, but calligraphy isn't the only writing art that would be beneficial to drawing. I draw something because I want to, but the sketch/line/coloring process means a given image will usually take me 5-8 hours and be bad. You waste more time alternating back and forth, rather than processing what one is trying to say fully. Hampton will help you understand the planes of the head better, while Morpho will teach you the importance of line weight to convey form and landmarks.

Shitposting aside, I went through my pc a couple of days ago and found good old PaintTool SAI that I had downloaded from DA or Tumblr like a decade ago, I booted it up and have been doodling a bit and honestly it's pretty fun, I regret instantly quitting back then lol.

Daily (for a week):

-30-40 mins, choose 1 simple form (mug, bottle, box, hammer), draw it at 4 different rotating angles (draw cube/rectangle to help facings), sketch lightly then clarify contour, at least 1 should be without refs or guides, occasionally rotate vertically
-60 mins, pick 3-5 household objects (no photoref), use draw through, rebuild form with basic primitives, show centerlines, crosscontours, elipses and axes, at least 1 object assymetrical
- 20-30 mins (5 mins per object), from memory (no references) redraw 4-6 objects, can be an object you drew before, No guidelines, just quick line sketch, if possible from multiple angles
-10 mins, sketchbook play.
- additionally, at the end of the week, redraw the object you felt was the best from memory and a different angle, then compare the two. Annoint where you feel both failed.
