Man looking at the profiles of artstation pros and what they are seeking is fucking sad.

I was just thinking about this
One of my favorite game artists has become so technically good that her work has lost its character or personality
I don't want to use the word sterile but it's just so sanitized. It's like walking into a luxury car dealership. Her new stuff looks like it was made by a machine (not AI) rather than an artist with vision. She's been getting so much work and a lot of cool placements so it looks like the industry wants that type of highly polished work. But now art is "too good" and not fun and the community and trending tabs on artstation is a good place to see it, especially for game art.

>anons are surprised that people who want to work in the industry actually all do the same shit because they are supposed to be able to do the same shit
it's like twitter artists drawing fall the same otm slop because that's the demand

if you hold to the belief that you'll get work by being original and having your own style, you're going to have a rough awakening

Kek it's crazy how accurate you are.

The problem is that if you try to NOT do anime girls (coomshit or not) it suddenly becomes harder to get any traction. People can complain about how stereotypical stuff is, but its that way for an unfortunate reason.

I think there's something to be said about artists finding their own niche interest. Whether that's landscapes, figure drawing, a certain style, etc. Let's say you're a hobbyist artist whose taste is simple and boring (anime girls in a white void). Extrapolate on that. What do you find appealing about them and how can you add to that category? Do you like certain character designs and clothing? Certain body types? Then draw that. Think about certain scenarios you want that girl to be in. Adapt that character to new settings and environments, play with the character's design, push the limits. Don't just be another boring dude copying what's successful or marketable. Pic related is an artist (henazin) that really likes inking and pushes that to its full potential.

bad? eh. boring and limiting? yep.

that's not the point
the art isn't even bad, that's the issue, it's good but it's just boring and uninspired.

You're unironically right, I've seen a few of those and I barely use ArtStation...

That's not the point, do whatever you want, but popular is not the same as uninspired despite the huge overlap.

yes and no. this is the tricky part, you do your own thing as well, your own work, make your own games and whatnot. then you stand out and they'll start copying you. its not a hard concept to grasp.

Games like Wind Waker, Ape Escape and Fear Effect still still look fantastic after so many years, meanwhile these 'realistic' art directions tend to look shit even right out the gate.
Though I'd say the biggest issue is the 'real human' asset creators that a lot of developers are using these days, because it gives everything this same dull look.
It's not like 'realistic' has to be boring, Dark Souls and Bloodborne have 'realistic' visuals, but their art direction is fantastic.

>y-y-you guys just dislike thing, because thing is popular
What a boring critique of these opinions.

Companies do actually hire for originality.

But that being said most people who think they're being original either aren't, or have bad taste. Just because your horrifying 4chud incelslop is ostensibly original doesn't mean anyone actually wants it.
