Loomis wrote really pleasant prose in his books but his actual "how to draw" explanations are so lacking and difficult to follow which seems to be a case with all art related books (which are not about perspective, perspective books are usually much easier to digest on average).

I think the poses you have are close to being good already, here's how I'd tweak Red and Teal. For Teal I'd also make her jacket/sweatshirt cover less of her front, exposing more of her body will make her come off as more open and help convey the easygoing surf girl personality.
For Blue, I'd keep her facing away, it makes her interesting. You can convey her emotions through her shoulders and arms (the downside would be you have to redraw more of her for each sprite), changing whatever the card? she's holding displays, or by turning her head slightly so that her eye is visible.

Hello, this is horse bones. I have moved on from the donkey, now entering box mannequins. Instantly, I have learned a lot from just this exercise. I think i will stick with it for a quite a while.
One thing I have noticed is that I don't think cylinders are the correct way to help with perspective. When you're trying to represent different planes as you're rotating objects, cylinders are very difficult, especially if they are tapered. Furthermore, it's hard to visualize the gap between the thighs because cylinders allow too much leniency. Though, by making these mistakes, I have learned to rely on symmetry lines. I will make my own shapes to understand the mannequin as it rotates.
A last closing thought is the importance of drawing connected forms. Its easy to draw a box, but to improve you have to draw three more boxes on top of it in different angles, rotation, and sizes while maintaining consistency.
I will now draw five hundred more mannequins.

While drawing though, I kept thinking "Am I drawing a symbol or am I actually constructing 3D shapes", as I drew the skull I realised it does consist of 3D shapes, but I often couldn't figure them out. I know the Teeth line is a cylinder, and the cranium itself is a sphere. But for the cheek bones and such I am not sure what shape those are? I know the nostril is essentially a triangle of sorts. But I dunno, guess it's something I need to work on.

If you want to attain honest drawing skills such as how to communicate 3D forms, values, perspective, etc, then life drawing is a MUST. You’re not gonna master perspective by drawing pictures of buildings, you master it by going to your city and drawing it. Good chat, life drawing have more benefits than drawing from photographs. I always believe if you study from digital, just trace, trace over photographs, over other artists pose, steal. try... drawing less as weird as it sounds. draw only the most basic shapes you can see, like the noseholes but not the whole nose, the open mouth and only the upper and lower lip contours, not connecting the thing. a minimalist approach. its still recognizeable, but obviously skewed.

personally i would argue its also a hard image to do, because its lit so well, so you have less shadows to mooch off of, less parallel lines to help you guide the sizing.
