What do you do with people who use the follow/unfollow tactic?
>Oh New follower!
>Gonna follow them back
>Oh he instantly unfollowed me and hoped I wouldn't notice.
What's the best course of action with these people? I find this annoying.

Be honest about your follows. Only follow back if you like their art. Never follow just because

I'll agree with the others, don't do this. I don't post anything on my social media accounts, but I follow hundreds of artists, and of course they don't follow me back, nor do I expect them to.
Likewise, why should anyone else expect you to follow them back?

a silly thing to care about
just follow things you enjoy and want to see more of

I dont get it, why would they unfollow you after? Is there a cost to following someone? I get they are trying ot gain followers, but why unfollow? Just to feel like they pulled a fast one?

Playing social media games is a level of pathetic you should never sink to.

I just pretend numbers don't exist. If I follow it's because the art is good and wasn't drowned out by you reeing about politics or whatever all day. If I don't, it doesn't matter to me that you've got 300K follows, if all you draw is porn, more power to you, not what I'm interested in seeing on the feed. Glad you liked the art.

Wise friend of mine said that social media is only tolerable when nobody is using it as social media. The follow/unfollow thing, I've seen it happen a couple of times, it's always some art director who's trying to chase a post-industry social career and obviously got the tip from some dogshit site. If you want to play the number game, just buy an ad, this is pathetic. That's the worst number to play games for, followers don't do anything.

>follow someone simply because I like their account
>they follow me back and even comment on my doodle
woohoo!

why would you follow something that you don't really like? Don't do that.

Follower to follow ratio matters for the algo. If you have a lot more followers than accounts you follow then your content will be recommended on more people's feed.

I'm not sure that's been the case since like 2017, algos are driven by view-to-engagement-rate and follower/followers count only matter if you're following 3000 a day while getting 0 as an obvious bot account, and even then the only "punishment" is people not seeing your follow notif.

I haven't seen any difference in view-to-engagement between 50k followers/0 followed JP artists and 39k followers/4.3k followed western artists who love to yap. The algo definitely filters out text/blog posts that get like 4 likes but decent art does pretty standard 1:10 engagement/views these days.

So it's not just pathetic, it's completely ineffective. They've been filtering out this SEO gaming as much as they can, and thank fuck for that. Just follow someone if you like the art and don't if you don't.

That's a stupid data point for the algorithm, if true. It just discourages people to actually engage with each other - which these stupid "social" media sites already discourages.

Classic overthinking, I've hit the follow and like buttons by accident so many time.

I never follow someone else unless I like their stuff

If you already spent $300 on a tablet and you care that much, just go on the dark web and buy 3000 followers. Then only follow the people you actually want to follow.
