I see this a lot with tumblr artists.
The eyes are too close together. usually because they're using the western narrow face or head structure combined with anime eyes compared to the anime wide face structure of a cat.

I think what you're describing is the pseudo-anime style of Godawful slop like Voltron and She-Ra, and who knows how many other such pieces of shit.
Likely started with ATLA, which was also its best incarnation.
It repulses me: this is the best that Western animators can do with a studio budget? A bad copy of anime, which itself evolved from Western styles? Just embarrassing: a mirror degraded reflection of older forms.

I agree with this. Something else I've noticed is that they're deathly afraid of making women look like women. They'll give them wide shoulders, narrower pelvises, thicker limbs, reduced (or nonexistent) breasts, and a less curvy body overall (except when that curviness is the result of overweightness). If they don't like anime characters, why draw them? It feels disrespectful.
