Is it better to have an art account with a japanese-sounding username or one with a shortened version of my real name? It's really good but I don't want to be accused of asianfishing.

Depends on how worried about your privacy you are, or if this is a 'professional' account.
If it's a hobby, I'd say hell no.

Not really, no. If we're talking numbers, the most popular accounts are probably white dudes who draw the Joker or some shit and have 20 million normie followers.

But if we're talking anime, there's just more good anime style artists from japan than there is from the west. Most weebs are pretty creatively bankrupt. You can't really do a 1:1 comparison like that because the culture is pretty different despite the style similarities. Changing your name isn't going to suddenly make your content worth looking at.

I check if it's a Japanese account before I follow. But I don't unfollow if they made it convincing enough and I find out later, it's more about the artstyle being Japanese and them being pro-Japan than the ethnicity. It's basically a dogwhistle that I can expect some level of quality and not expect to find the usual western nonsense.
