>I posted on a commission sub saying that I wanted to commission an artist who can replicate a certain game's artstyle
>DOZENS of artists respond linking their portfolio and when you go through their portfolio it is obvious that they can not replicate the artstyle

Why do they keep doing this shit?

what's the job?

It's common in professional settings to ask applicants to provide a few sketches showing they can replicate said style. Might be a good way to both weed out idiots and give decent artists a chance to prove their skill.

if an artist is truly skilled, they can replicate any style
them not having that exact style in their portfolio doesn't necessarily mean they can't achieve it
you are retarded

No one's going to provide "a few" sketches for a one time commission. If it was bigger project, maybe but even then people usually comm artists who they want to draw for them, not set up an application project to find out which artist is desperate enough to even apply. And if someone's desperate enough to apply, there's very slim chance they'd be good enough for the client's standards.

OP, you are the one seeking out artists that fit your very narrow qualification. It's best you look for artists that seem to the able to pull it off and then hire them. Not making some application shitshow that will only waste everyone's time.

I literally said that I was looking for someone who can replicate the artstyle and people who can't replicate the artstyle responded. How is that my fault? They are wasting my time by lying and saying that can take do the job when they can't even do the art style. I looked at their portfolios and their art is dog shit.

Depends on the quality of their work. Mastering fundies makes it pretty easy to emulate any style. This is also why portfolios should show your generalist capabilities along with a few that are curated to what you are applying for.

Did you ever consider that they're showing you that they are versatile at mimicking different styles? Do you really expect them to just so happen to have an exact example of the particular style you wanted?

So contact artists that seem they already can. Cut the "contact me first and let me see if you are up to this" shit. Most artists have public galleries so just go through artists who already draw in style you want. If you think high enough level artists going to apply for chance of commission, you are wasting your own and everyone else's time. Clients contact artists for commissions.

Dude I noticed this like 8 years ago on reddit. I can't imagine how bad it is now. Any commission request would have hundreds of comments. Every single account I clicked on just had absolutely atrocious art that was nothing like the style OP was requesting. I don't understand where this blind delusion and confidence comes from. I wouldn't even attempt to post an open commission request. Find an artist directly and message them.

It's so annoying. When I posted it they all jumped into my DMs saying suff like "I think I can replicate the artstyle you want" and "I'm sure I can replicate the artstyle." not "I CAN replicate the artstyle" because these fuckers know they can't do the request properly.
Anonymous No.7699441 >>7699501

And it's selfish because obviously nobody can ask an artist to do a sketch to "prove" they can do the art so some asshat who knows they can't do the job properly is wasting someone's time
Anonymous No.7699501

You think I should actually show like a 15 min sketch just to prove that
Anonymous No.7699618
Hello saar, I can replicate said artstyle! (If I knew what it was)

as long as an artist has decent observation skills, they should be able to replicate any style
and any decent artist should know that a few studies would be required anyway, so they should charge more for that kind of work

this. all my this. if they’re really good and say they can, they most probably can. fundamental skill is generally endlessly translatable. and in the really unlikely scenario where you get someone good to try and they find out that strangely they can’t, they could just let you know sorry, it didn’t work out. but yeah. probably they’re telling it like it is.
