Am I good enough to start taking commissions? How much should I ask?

What does a finished piece look like? Personally it's not something I would buy, but I'm not your target demographic. This to me looks like you punched out something quick without thinking much of putting a ton of effort into it. It's a sketch right, so it's a little sloppy. If I were to buy art I prefer something that looks like you put more heart into it.

Fair enough but I like making art like this.

I've tried rendering them out and the extra effort does not improve the image in my opinion

Gotcha. Judging from this second piece now too I think I will stand by my opinion where it's just a bit too loose for me. I think some people would be willing to pay for a sketch if it were a low price (compared to a higher price of a more popular artist if you have no following or customer base yet)
There's a few factors that go into the price of a commission. Popularity, technique, and customer base. Your price would be pretty low in this case.

Pretty cool style. How much do you want to ask? Name a price and I'll tell you if I personally would go for it.

you can probably get small commissions if you get into niche fandoms
but you do finished work for a more mainstream audience

why do you feel the need to type like a condecending asshole? You don't have to pack every sentence with underhanded jabs at the person you're talking to.

I don't think it's outrageous, but no I personally would pass, if only because I can just draw stuff for myself. Maybe at $15. That makes a big difference, psychologically.

The quality isn't really that much of a factor. Once you reach a certain threshold (I'd say you already have) you can charge for work. It doesn't really get any more profitable based on skill level, until you get very famous and a recognized style. The average comm doesn't understand the difference in quality years of experience and study can give you. They just want their goon material and if you're an unknown you're gonna be making what everyone else makes.
Got any finished work to show?
Sketch comms usually go for $25 to $50 if you can meet the right people.
You can charge much more for better inking, colour, backgrounds etc.
Welcome to the industry.
It's shit pay, drawing weird stuff for weird people lol. But it's the best job in the world if you're built for it.

You were already good enough even before you started the other thread. IMO, getting commissions really depends more on your market-finding skill than actual drawing skill.
For a sketch like that, I'd say $10 to $15 is a fair price.
For one like >>7707328 , $10
But you could increase the price if the demand were overwhelming.

I don't think I came off as condescending? Analytical, definitely, and I'm using words that probably come off as cooperate. I'm not in the right headspace today to sound normal :( just having a bad day honestly. But really, I was just trying to critique on a critique board. Like, I think anon's art has appeal but he's literally asking if he's good enough to start taking commissions. Asking that on this board while it may seem correct at first (since it's a critique board) it's actually not a good idea. His best bet would be going to /aco/ or /co/ and checking out the commission threads and seeing if anyone bites. There's also request threads he can partake in to get his name out there. On here he's just going to get critique of his art. When I do commissions, I don't like doing quick sketches like this. I mean it when I say it's sloppy. Ugly? Not really. But if someone's paying you money for art, don't you think at least a bit more heart and soul should be put into it? I also feel it's weird for you to nitpick me when people typically go "shill, beg, gtfo your art is shit"

Well anon, I am sorry if I came down too hard on you. I understand that you may not have meant it that way.
