What pencil hardness do you sketch with?

I use 3B.

2b is the comfortable middle ground if i have nothing else. 3b and b are also fine
if i know i'm going to be doing several passes i'll drop down to F, 2h at most but there's really no reason to go past that unless if i'm planning to layout perspective guidelines
after go up to whatever i need for darker but thats not really for sketching, thats for rendering which i never do traditionally anyways

HB-2B-4B

This, I love how 4B feels but it smudges like crazy in my sketchbooks/paper so 2B is the best compromise for me

Need help. Everytime I sketch Im brushing the paper like im trying to defuse a bomb. I sketch with f because I erase a lot and im pretty slow... how do i become more loose and actually treat the sketch like a sketch

Staedtler 10H, I like to sketch very gesturally and then switch to 4B once I feel like I have a good flow

Same. Though lately I'm using colored pencils to sketch and idk what hardness they are

I often used HB and B before but you can hardly tell between the two especially when doing values, so I switched to 3B for sketching and 7B/8B when I want a darker gradient in the sketch.

You should never need an eraser while sketching. Draw lighter and restate the line if it's not what you want, spend more time measuring and placing guide marks. You're probably chicken scratching so any line or form gets lost in the sea of all the marks you've made.

I only ever use erasers if I'm inking something.
If you need perfectionism and refinement, then do multiple drawings and take time to copy with a grid or trace.

2H is my absolute go to for everything. It's only when I start serious rendering that I go into softer grades, but even I grab back to 2H every now and then to layer over and unify the mass tones.

Nothing feels better than a 0.9mm B. It’s so heavy and thick. I’m like carving the drawing into the paper.

I’d use a lead holder but i rip through lead so fast that its annoying to keep sharpening it every 4 minutes

2B.
I don't know what kind of indecisive sickos drawing with the H pencils, but I wouldn't hang around such people anons, they'd be a bad influence.

which mechnical pencil is that?

HB and 2B, sometimes an 8B if im feeling freaky.
Actually quite like drawing with the softer Bs but they're a pain in the ass in terms of smudging and breaking inside your bag

I'm still discovering that now. Maybe its cause I've been drawing/studying in ink lately but I can't help but feel B and up is what feels good for sketching. Thing is the paper gets messy and doesnt allow for much detail. Then again I wonder if I have an animation influenced style and I shouldnt worry about details like so.

Damn, may have to try an 0.9. Been using .5 and .7, with the latter feeling better with a smooth 2B lead.

1H, balance between not smearing everywhere and not poking holes in the paper.
