I like Virgil Finlay. The dated medium combined with sci fi is a very cool vibe.

This is such a a good drawing. The only things I would change are his expression (should be stronger) and the horse's hind legs (shouldn't be parallel).

How did Wrightson pull this off, anyway?

100+ hours per piece, 7 years for about 50 pages while doing contract work elsewhere.

fucking neat
makes me want to go back and buy a few packs of uni-balls and get back to my roots. this is a good reminder that my art existed before the internet. fucking internet stupid tech ruined my desire to hand-draw shit on paper.

Art like this makes me obsess over every little detail in my own drawings, then I end up spending hours just staring at them and doing nothing

Stuff like this has been my recent obsession in reproducing and learning. Just high contrast "simple" pieces.

mmm. that makes sense. I remember reading that he was displeased with his first work on Frankenstein and went back and did a lot more work on it.

Another wrightson frankentsein. Ive tried doing this type of work before. The grass alone takes HOURS. like a 1x1 cube of this type of grass is just painstaking detail work. And overinking or messing up values can quickly destroy the entire piece if you rush or arent paying attention to your values and composition.

That's goddamn pleasant. I love how the tree isn't just extending past the border, it's growing out of the panel and there are little shoots that are extending out and around the border while the main branch is angling behind it. *Mwah* chef's kiss

Can you do this with a ballpoint pen
Anonymous No.7719656

People can. I dislike ballpoint and dont feel like trying to master the touch over just using a brush/nib/finerliner

I do it when I'm away from my computer. Mostly because I can't be assed learning anything else. Digital has made me soft.
