It was a combination of only having 4 true credible headliner candidates that dominated the vote (Clovis, Fluxxo, Zehya, Atta, ScaryMovies) and one character that would've easily been in that top as well being banned (Ignatius). Berry-anon has been in CRAB 1 since the start and has always proven themselves to be consistent and serviceable. Add the fact they've experience headlining due to the fact their headliners in CRAB 2 and 3 dropped out and how much they had to save the ship from sinking, Berry-anon deserves it.
HI-anon's work and taste may not be for everyone, but he has proven himself to be a competent and quite dangerous contestant to face if underestimated. Add the fact he also had to play headliner in CRAB 2 after his dogshit headliner got kicked from a team made to fail from the start, and he deserves it.
Leo-anon I'd say is the only one who sadly was, as they say, "not ready yet". Art-wise not ready. Writing-wise not ready. Mentality-wise not ready. He should have not been made headliner this year and it shows. If he wants to be headliner again next year, he better has to prove he's grown up, because otherwise he's not gonna be picked.

He (along with Lovell) were the only headliners facing non-headliners and both also completely performed below expectations. Leo seemed to have underestimated their opponent and thought they could win with an animatic easily. But a combination of a rough-looking animatic and little to no story (including bad character writing for Kell) made it a real stinker.
The time he finally actually faces a headliner in Head Investigator, he completely allowed himself to be mindbroken by a stupid joke HI-anon made. His entry was much better than his last one, but still a league below Head Investigator.
His team seems positive about him, but he doesn't exude actual headliner energy.

Skill issue. The time pre-crab before Crab 5 is more than enough time to think up a character and the new members will have a month prior to come up with a character. If they need more time they can sit their ass on the bench and use the rest of Crab 5 to come up with a character for Crab 6

Unpopular Theory: Atta is the Koichi Ouma of CRAB 4

Her villainous image was all an act, from the start. Her reference sheet mentions her having a trollish streak and enjoys messing with people. Which is exactly Koichi's talent. At her post R1 scene and R2 entry, she's shown to take pride in being labeled a villain and being punished for it. She didn't even get mad when she was pushed into the corner, unlike her reaction in Berry's entry.
I have two possibilitie explainations for this.

1. Her maniac persona in Berry's entry was also part of her act.
2. She mental state was becoming increasingly unstable with the environment she's in combined with her constant failings of her plans, throughout R2 and by the time her match with Berry started, she already fell completely into her villain persona as her coping mechanism. Poor girl.
(Plus they're a way to help make sense out what Berryanon calls it, Atta's mischaracterization.)

Finally, what do both Atta and Koichi's goals share in common?
THEY WANT TO SAVE EVERYONE!
Of course they'd both resort to their twisted version of chess, knowing damn well that the same everybody they swore to save will hate them for this.

But jokes aside, her becoming increasingly manic in her entry is just part of her mental issues, she is usually extremely detached (which is why she has no strong reaction to Berry fucking her plan in my entry, nor she holds any hate for the crabs going against her), with peaks of "religious" mania. Crab makes her unstable by default because its like throwing a PTSD veteran back to the war - she resorts to what she knows.

Her wish was - I think its fine to reveal it now- that "everyone would agree with her". Meaning that it didn't matter what she did in the event everyone would have agreed it was worth it. Her intentions are genuinely good and she believes this would help most worlds. This is of course retarded as one may see from how she does things, but she is blinded by a mix of ego and coping and the need to control everything due to having to survive the awful environment of her world.

Lastly she actually hates the idea of being considered a villain, one of the few things that can actually trigger her. But at the same time she recognizes she has done a lot of horrible things and is expecting comeuppance, so she doesn't cry when it comes to her.

I don't imagine it as unpopular, but an opinion that needs to be said: Lovell is one of the worst characters in this tournament. There is nothing interesting to her and her creator has done nothing fun with her that makes you care for her.
It all boils down to 2 major issues:

I've been a vocal proponent against people who drop rejoining the tournament for a reason, but this year the bench has helped alleviate most of the problems that come about from these situations.

In the case of Marox, the team's misfortune is ultimately the fault of the headliner, who while noble to give Marox the benefit of the doubt paid the price of belief and loyalty with empty hands. It's sad and I feel bad for Berry-anon for trying to be decent to one person but the situation is an example of why headliners need to be diligent and attentive to their teams (and why headliner voting and direction is important in general).

Marox did put effort but unfortunately has a trend to drop at R2, he is not made for this longform demanding tournament and honestly needed serious help that nobody here is qualified to give. I'm personally hoping that although he's completely radio silent that he is getting mental help that he very desperately needs because his situation to me looked incredibly dire and I would hate to think something terrible happened to him to cause this sudden and extensive silence.

Hemma's anxiety can be terrible for him but he really sticks it out like a trooper, despite things happening that I think would have unstuck someone more timid-hearted. He does quite a lot actually! A lot more than some other people I can name.

Being a God or OP is not the biggest issue here. We've had God and OP characters beforehand and some of them are very beloved here too - Balkari, Wanzu and Fluxxo.
The clear issue here is a bad combo of personality and power. Lovell is strong but also nonchalant. But also ruthless. It's a combination that makes it hard to have fun interactions with characters. And you have to watch out with making your OP character not just power-wise but also character-wise a big wall to write around.
Wanzu is for example a pretty compassionate and friendly character. Fluxxo has his mean streak, but he rather wants to have fun and be goofy than just stomp. Even Balkari, who I'd say is the closest to Lovell personality-wise, has a thing to her that underneath her drunken fighter looks, she does show moments of actually caring and being able to amicably interact with other characters.

Bringing OP characters in CRAB can be fun and matchups against them can really test your creativity. I personally felt my match last year against Tredecima was one of my best ones despite the obstacles. But you have to give the character SOMETHING that can make them able to be played around with. Otherwise it's gonna be hard for people to want to care for them.

Kell-anon has been on an absolute roll and had made really great entries. Ellie-anon would be the toughest challenge they faced yet, but I feel Kell can surprise here. Ellie is great and fun as well, I am excited to see what they may be cooking.

I have no big idea of what to expect of Zorquan-anon, but Speedrun-anon has recovered himself well from their bad R1 and seemed to have found his footing. Seeing a match of speedster against a dragon would be a real cool "speed vs power" fight.

A match I'm excited to see on just comedy-potential alone. Marv-anon and Cops-anon (along with Scarlet-anon) are artists that are in the "Pure SOVL" category: they may not be the best artists, but their artstyle and writing is so hilarious and charming you just cannot stop love it. So a match-up between these two would be a true clash of SOVL.
